Fair detective story

When James Baldon comes home from a party late at night, he is not able to open the front door of his apartment. The reason: a death man is blocking his entrance. David Brewer, head of the Homicide Squad of Police Department 240 Center Street, New York, starts the investigations. When it is discovered that the body was moved after being shot, everybody in the building turns out to have an alibi. Of one thing Brewer is sure: one alibi must be false.
This book was written in 1959 by the German detective writer Frank Arnau. It is a mediocre detective novel that has a strong feel of authenticity. It is clear that a lot of research went into this book. Arnau succeeds very well in keeping up a constant level of suspense. The solution is fair, although no really surprising.
